NASA predicts widespread and massive solar flares in 2012. Even the tropics will see the northern lights, and with the magnetosphere wide open, gaping with a giant hole in it and weakening as each day ticks by the earth will have little defense against these solar flares. This phenomena would have little impact on our lives if we lived a 100 years ago, but with all our delicate computerized systems, things could get bad very fast.
What could go wrong? How about failure of the North American grid? Yes, our lights could go out for perhaps years, and our lives would diminish to pre-industrial revolution days.
We have seen what happens during a black out in a big city, anarchy! Now imagine the entire world in a blackout lasting for years! Now you are getting the picture and it is an ugly one indeed. It would be the end of life on planet earth as we know it.
Recently there was a program on Tru TV about massive solar flares in 2012 and their projected effects. The program is called “Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura”, the former governor of Minnesota.
Gov Ventura explores the massive tunnel building of the last decade by the US government. Everywhere across the USA massive bunkers are being built, so that when things get bad the elite of this country will have a place to go until things get back to normal again. The thing of it is, there is no room for you and me, but guess who is paying for it all?
That’s right, it appears the US government is getting ready for a big catastrophic event using our tax dollars, but the average American and their family will be left out in the cold , or rather I should say, the heat. These solar flares may be so intense that the atmosphere could ignite and then everything on the surface of the earth will be burnt to a cinder. I guess that means the end for you and me unless you have a deep hole in the ground somewhere, and even then, GOOD LUCK! If you do survive the initial flares and ride it out, you are still going to have to find something to eat, and that could be a futile endeavor indeed.
And so, in the end, perhaps the Mayans were right. Maybe our lives will end, and our civilizations with it. Until now I thought all the hype over 2012 was nothing more than people getting rich off other people’s fears. Remember Y2K? But this time, things may be different.
What can we do about it? Probably nothing. Would you really want to even live in a world where everything is burnt to a crisp? Think about it. It would be total anarchy, with every man for himself.

Ironic that the Mayans couldn't last and for them 2012 came real early.
Can you say sensationalism? I am not saying the world is not comming to end, I am just saying that acording to the Bible we will not know when that time will be. We can know the "season" but not the very day.
You did a great job and I will soon be writing my own hub with a slightly differant bend to it. I will go into more detail about the sun flares and the many types of possibilities that MAY accure and why.
I have known about the underground bounkers before for they have been much speculation on the reason they have been built. I must say that I like the demon dude in the suitcase. I am not sure what he stands for and yet he is cool. (Rember, I still have dark side to me) Anyway, The Bible clearly states that all the money in THE WORLD will NOT save you at the time of the end.
I will get back to you after I have done some more research.

Hello HighVoltage...I am looking forward to your research on solar flares. I fudged a little on this hub, I got most of my info from a TV program. I did not do any actual research of my own on NASA, I am waiting for your report on that too. Thanks...I hope I can link this hub to any others you may write on this subject. That bunker building spree the US gov is on...why? I wish we could find out more about that, but that is probably all top secret stuff.
You are right, that is in the Bible...and it makes me feel a lot better about things, because I will never have enough money to get into an underground bunker. I guess I will have to put my faith in God, he has looked after me pretty good so far, and I am grateful for that.
The gargoyle on the suitcase...is that a nuclear suitcase bomb? Bizarre, and WHY would they put all that stuff in the Denver airport? Especially the little children in coffins! Its sick, maybe a strange person's idea of art. Others think it is the new world order, who knows, it is interesting.

The Mayan prophecy may not be off the mark after all. I should get over to the NASA website and see what they are predicting concerning solar flares for Dec 21. 2012, last day on the Mayan calendar.
Science and prophecy seem to be jelling into one massive event.
I would like to know why the US gov is building up all those underground bunkers? That is the 64,000 dollar question, as my grandmother would say.
So about my research...my hub will most likely be done in about a day or so. There WILL be increased solar activity in the next year and there are a lot of reasons we shold be concerned about the sun. A great hub. This is really scary stuff. I don't know about the Mayans being true but we surely can't deny science. I love Jesse Ventura and his conspiracy show. I thought I would leave a comment and then go back to all of your videos to watch verrry closely. I would like to know why the government has the underground bunkers too. They are probably goin g to save themselves and leave us peasants to die. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds, I think! I feel badly for my kids and grandkids that have to live through this madness. I hope I will be gone by then. Thanks for getting people to think.
There was a movie I watched not too long ago about the solar flares destroying the world. It was a ficticious movie but now I wonder. I can't think of the name but when I do, I will come back to tell you. It's really good, you must watch it.
The movie is called "Knowing" with Nicolas Cage. I was racking my brain trying to think of the name. Lol.
John Cusack and Woody Harrelson star in a movie called 2012 that is based on these theories. It seams Hollywood has known since 2006 at least because the movie came out in 2009. It is a bit alarming that it is based on some science.

Thank you for stopping leaving a comment. I thought all the stuff about 2012 was hype, until I found out about the solar flares, now I am worried. If Kaku says this keeps him awake at night....there is something to this. According to Jessse Ventura our government is doing nothing to safeguard the North American grid against this. WHY? The only thing the gov seems to be doing is build bunkers for the elite!

I know what you mean, ignorance is bliss. I am plenty of upset about this too.
I think we are going to have to put our faith in God, that he will take care of us. In the meantime, we can start figuring out what we are going to do. We can start calling our electric companies and ask them if they are aware of this problem and ask them what they are doing about it. It is not that hard to get the power grid fixed up so the lights do not go out? Why are they not doing that? THAT question is what worries me the most. Maybe there is no use doing anything because maybe those flares will start the atmosphere on fire and then it will be over anyhow. I hope not, but who knows, when people like Kaku are worried it is not a good sign at all.

What can I say? Great minds think alike - or at least come to some ideas at the same time.
Personally I think everything is up to debate... but there is a need for one thing above all, no matter what does or does not happen.
The world needs those of us that are able to muster the energy to become AGENTS OF CALM.
The world is going to escilate with a lot of worries, if solar flares are going to destroy us, there is absolutely nothing we can do about something like that. So would it not be prudent to get your own life happy and in order. That saves the world one more paranoid scared person running around. And then spend this time helping others do the same.
That is my main opinion, you Magnoliazz and others should consider becoming part of the legion the AGENTS OF CALM, I think it is the way to do the most good.

I have not seen your for some time, I know you are busy. Its good to see you here.
Of course you are right. If the solar flares were massive enough they could start that atmosphere on fire and then no one on the surface would have much of a chance, however, if the flares were just intense enough to knock out the transformers and cut off the electric, that we can get prepared for that. We can ground those transformers and all will go on as always.
Either way, its good to accept whatever is coming with a sense of calm because that is always better than blind terror.
As the countdown to 2012 continues, we will see more and more hysteria, possibly even suicides. I don't want to be the one who causes something like that. I will probably take this hub down long before that. The purpose of this hub is to inform people so they can do something about their electrical supply now.
No matter what happens, people will learn to adjust, espcially if they have no choice and life will go on. I believe we are too highly civilized to collapse back to the dark ages.

The goats have been very naughty. The sheep and the goats both jumped the fences and roamed the neighborhood for days before they were all rounded up again.
I think the goats, Feebie, Flow, and Frantic were the ringleaders,(sheep are peaceful...like they just smoked a big joint or something, they never break out on their own unless they are really scared). So the goats are going to winter over at the Amish goat dairy where they know how to handle problem goats.
Don't worry, once a month I have to haul some food over there for those little beasts, so I will give a goat update from time to time.

Magnoliazz, please know that I was not criticizing you at all. Your article is pertinant, timely, and well written. Just wanted to add a side note, unfortunately many people become scared and paranoid...those of us with some reserves owe it to them to help them keep calm and collected. Personally I think most of the world will survive 2012 and far beyond.

You make a very good point! I thank the good Lord everyday for all the blessings in my life, and people should be grateful for what they have. Most of us are spoiled and do not appreciate the everyday things we all take for granted. Just for instance, WATER! A simple thing, but many people the world over have no decent water.
And, people all over the world are working to make the world a better place for everyone, not just the few. But of course, it is not that simple, not that black and white there are many gray areas here.
You can wish and hope for better days all you want, but if you don't WORK and PLAN for those days, it will never happen. God helps those who help themselves.
I am not saying to panic in this hub, I am just passing on some very interesting material. These highly educated people are giving us a heads up and I think we need to pay attention to that.

good subject,not wanting to alarm you,but if solar burst and underground bunkers upset you look up Fema Prisons. That will blow your mind.I wish nothing but the best for everyone,but information on a lot of not so pleasant subjects is coming to the surface very quick.
You know me, I like science over prophecy. I'm spiritual but not religious!! The sun is indeed powerful, yet we live 93 million miles away! They have been selling that hot product know as the end of the world for some time. we made through all the others, I have no reason to believe we wont be around for 2013. The economy will still suck and Obama will still be president..as long as we dont invade any more countries for oil, then I think Nuckular Armagheddon is a bit unlikely as well.
But mabey thats why they are building all those bunkers, they konw something we dont, like the Republicans ARE going to start another war when they return to the whitehouse.
Ps: Humans, because we live less than a century(in most cases) have not witnesses the turn of the century. People have freaked out at the end of EVERY century, think it was the end, simply because they hadn't seen the caledar turn like we have!!

iit is a little known fact the mayans just ran out of wall space and had no where else to put ther calender..
but seriously- i did see a special on history/discovery/nat'l geo about how the mayan calender start point was actually 40-60 years later so the actual "2012" date is more like 2052 to 2072.. either way... My son will be president in there sometime- so maybe he can figure something out- I'll be dead for sure.
