Scandinavian grandmother's beauty secrets revealed!
Would you like to look up to 15 years younger without plastic surgery? Well, sit back and read on, because I am going to finally reveal my long held beauty secrets, because everyone should be able to feel good about themselves at any age.
Have you ever heard about Scandinavian women having beautiful skin? Being of Scandinavian heritage I will tell you that not ALL Scandinavian women have beautiful skin. I have plenty of cousins who look many years old than they really are! Even with good genetics on their side, they are not beating the clock. However there are plenty of other women in my family who are simply ageless.
So what is the real secret of those Scandinavian beauties? Its really very simple, they stay out of the SUN!! They also avoid tanning beds like the plague. The sun will ruin your skin faster than any other thing. Both the sun and tanning beds can also give you deadly skin cancer. In fact, I recently saw a segment on TV which says that tanning beds are causing more and more skin cancer, especially in younger women. Skin cancer is not easily treated and can lead to death, so we are talking about a lot more than just beauty here.
If you feel that you must look tanned, try a spray on tan. It looks natural, and it cannot harm you.
But this is just the beginning. If you want to stay young looking, get rid of the cigarettes! Besides not being good for you, smoking is very, very aging. Just look at any smoker and you will see what I mean. Smoking if no longer considered glamorous, it is an ugly, dirty, and disgusting habit.
Watch how much you drink. Did you know that even women who are moderate drinkers have a higher incidence of breast cancer? If you choose to drink, try wine, and don't consume more than 5 oz a day.
Are you spending tons of money on beauty creams? Do you really think they are working? They probably are not worth the money you are paying for them. You won't need these expensive creams if you don't strip all the natural oils from your skin in the first place. Use plain witch hazel to cleanse your face if it feels oily. If it does not feel oily, simply use water. My great grandmother, a legendary Scandinavian beauty, gave me this bit of advice when I was 12 years old, and it has served me well. She died at the age of 98, and her skin was still beautiful! In fact she did not look much older than a woman over the age of 40.
My great grandmother also slept in a recliner! She claimed that if you slept lying down that fluids collect in your skin and you wake up all puffy eyed and bloated faced. This stretches the skin out, causing sags, bags and wrinkles. Sleeping upright avoids this.
If you simply cannot sleep upright in a recliner, then avoid eating 6 hours before bedtime to keep the bloating in your face while sleeping to a minimum. This will help, believe me, and it will also keep your weight down.
Another beauty secret that I have found is the 99 cent vitamin e stick at Wal-Mart. It looks like lipstick and is so easy to apply, just smooth on frown lines and watch them disappear! You should also use it on your lips to keep them super plump and hydrated. The more hydrated your lips, the bigger they look. This little stick is also great for under the eye. It keeps that delicate eye area firm and wrinkle free.
Another way to keep your face youthful is to take care of your teeth. If you lose teeth, it will affect the way your jaw line looks. Taking good care of your mouth helps with your over all health. Did you know that rotten teeth and gum disease can lead to heart problems and is considered to be the cause of death for many of the Egyptian pharaohs? Taking good care of your teeth will not only make you look young and beautiful, it will also help you stay healthy and live a longer, happier life.
Skin cancer is ugly and deadly, stay out of the sun!
Once again, here is a run down of my most important beauty secrets.
So, here they are again! My nine beauty secrets that can make you look up to 15 years younger without expensive plastic surgery.

thankyou for beaty secrets
I love that you tell it like it is about tanning and skin cancer - it's sad so many women are still tanning and turning into leather!
Cool tips and thanks for the info
I always try not to be to much in the sun though it is quite hard in Israel
Magnoliazz, Wonderful and helpful hub! Tahnk You for sharing your beauty serets! Witch Hazel is a great natural astringent! Blessings!!
Wow that image was cringe worthy. I agree that it is amazing that women are still injuring their skin in order to be tanned when there are so many self-tanning or indoor tanning options available now.
Natural beauty has always appealed to me. Anyone can get "get work done" to change their outward appearance. I've always admired the people who aren't afraid to show what they've got naturally. It's the uniqueness that makes us who we are so show it off and be proud of it. Beauty starts with ones view of themselves. If you believe than others will follow.
I grew up in sunny Southern California where everyone went to the beach and baked in the sun. Being a fair-skinned blonde, I really never tanned well. I just burned. I learned to wear a hat and a long-sleeved shirt. It probably saved me from some later difficulties.
Good advice in your hub.
I used to lie in the sun when I was younger - I still love the sun, but I'm not as concerned with being tanned like I used to be. A healthy glow works for me :D
I was on the swim team when I was young. Had a melanoma when I was 23. Im happy to wear long sleeves when I garden these days. Thanks for the tips. by the way is that your real photo? You farm girls sure are hot.
I would also lie in the sun to get a great tan during the summer months when I was a teen. Looked great then, but I have had a couple of pre-cancerous skin tags and the age spots on the face are hard to get rid of. I also believe you need to keep hydrated - older women tend not to drink enough fluids and their skin gets drapey. I also wrote a hub about this some time ago:

Staying out of the sun is just part of what it takes to stay looking young, but I agree that it is a big part. Thanks.
This subject is totally confusing to me!! Its summer here for nine months and what do we do who have outdoor jobs in difficult mining areas!! Another notable point is, there is very low breast cancer incident amongst Indian women!! Would await enlightment on the subject further!!
When I was just a very young girl I met a woman who was well into her sixties (I only know this because she told me) who had the most beautiful smooth, radiant skin I had ever seen. Yes, I mean nicer than that of twenty-year-olds. Her secret she told me was to avoid the sun! So true. Good post.
Nice info and good tips. By the way, I also want to add 2 more tips here. Walking in the early morning and in the evening hours can keep the skin stretched and look younger, for a long time. Also drink lots of water, especially as soon as you wake up and with empty stomach, in the morning. On a daily basis, we need to drink about 1.5 - 2 litres of water.
Nice hub with great information. The sleeping in a recliner with head elevated is a new one for me.
I'm curious about the second photo which is a face shot. Is that your picture? It looks similar to your hub picture :)
Very informative hub. I have a friend who is suffering with the same issue and provided the hub details to her. Good initiation but who loves to follow the last ones - the beauty secrets - every one feels after they gets any effects. Good sharing, thank you!!
very useful, thanks a lot.
Great Hub ! Good advice concerning skin cancer risks too. I would like to add a few items under the sun avoidance category
Apply sunblock not sunscreen 30 minutes before going out into the sun , daily , reapply hourly . Wear a wide brim hat ( not a baseball cap ) . Wear sunglasses because the eyes are very sensitive to the sun and it reduces squinting .
If you do require surgery for removal of any facial suspicious areas for testing , a plastic surgeon does a better cosmetic surgery .
Staying out of the sun as much as you can is great advice. If you do have to be out, it's also important to choose the right sunscreen. There are tons of harmful chemicals in sunscreens - especially oxybenzone - which can actually CAUSE cancer.
great tips
Thank you
My father-in-law says he never uses soap on his face. He has nice skin. He is 80 years old
